Three Hesco officials sacked for fraud

DADU, Feb 24: Services of three officers of Hesco, Dadu, were terminated by the Hesco chief on Monday on charges of causing Rs11.958 million loss to the company.

The sacked revenue officer, Ghulam Nabi Soomro, accountant Mithal Soomro and commercial assistant Abdul Qadir Siyal were accused of changing the record of consumers after receiving bribes of million of rupees between July 2000 to February 2002.

On receiving the complaints, Wapda chairman Zulfiqar Ali Khan constituted a special audit team to conduct an investigation.

The audit team, led by the auditor of Wapda and the chief auditor of Hesco conducted the investigation and furnished its report.

The report said that due to fraudulent, bogus and wrong cash posting to the accounts of consumers, Hesco sustained a loss of Rs11.958 million between July 2000 and February 2002.

Hesco chief, Brigadier Tariq Arshad, after receiving the report, terminated the services of the revenue officer, the accountant and the commercial assistant.

He directed the officials concerned to recover the amount from the consumers immediately.

KILLED: Three persons — Firdous, Laila Laghari and Syed Paryal Shah — were killed on the spot while seven were injured when a wall of the neighbouring house of Fateh Mohammad Shah collapsed on them in Sabzwari Mohalla of Sehwan on Sunday.

The injured were admitted to the Taluka Hospital, Sehwan.

KILLED: A villager as shot dead by armed men in Sedhal Aliwal village, Mehar taluka on Saturday.

The unidentified men tried to kidnap Ghulam Hussain Chhabaro, 35, and his brother, Gul Hassan, and when they offered resistance, Ghulam Hussain was shot dead.

ELECTROCUTED: Twelve-year-old Qamruddin Lund was electrocuted when he touched a live electricity wire in Karimdad Lund village on Saturday night.

ILLEGAL CONFINEMENT: The civil judge raided the Johi police station where he found eight people to be in illegal confinement the other day. He had them released on the spot.

After receiving telegrams from a woman, Raheema, through the Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, the civil judge, Johi, Khair Mohammad Solangi, raided the Johi police station (investigation) where he found eight people to be detained illegally. There was no entry in the register regarding their detention.

The civil judge had them released immediately.

They were identified as Mahram Lund, Ghulam Hussain, Ali Sher, Wazir Ali, Nooral, Loung, Siddique Jamali and Khair Mohammad Jamali.

This was stated by the federal minister for industries and production, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, at a meeting of government officials held at the DCO office.
