KARACHI: Six roads marked for bus lanes

KARACHI, Feb 24: Transport and Communication department of the city district government has completed its survey regarding the bus lanes in the city, said a press release of the department.

District Officer, Mohammed Ather, in a meeting of the department, which was held on Monday and was presided over by Executive District Officer, Dr Tahir Soomro, mentioned the bus lanes with the help of maps and charts.

Mr Ather said that the roads which had been selected for the bus lanes included Sharea Pakistan, Sher Shah Soori Road, Hakim Ibn-e-Sina Road, Shaheed-i-Millat Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road and University Road.

He told the meeting that six companies had shown interest in the construction of pedestrian bridges at 28 locations in the city. A committee was reviewing the offers for the final selection, he added.

The EDO constituted a monitoring committee for elimination of ‘token system’ for operating buses and mini buses. The committee would present its report in the next meeting.

He directed the secretary, district transport authority, to direct the transporters to remove pressure horns and tape recorders from their vehicles.—PPI
