Miracle completes double feat

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Feb 23: Bay filly Miracle, performed a double feat when she won the Narowal Cup and completed a hat trick during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by Zaheer Aslam with her regular partner jockey Azeem Pervaiz, in the saddle, Miracle toyed with her nine rivals to win by a distance from blue filly Prime Force, contrary to her owner’s expectations.

Bay colt Naseeb finished third by another distance while Zargar completed the frame, another three lengths back. This was the fifth race of the day and was run over 1600m. Miracle had earlier won two races in-a-row.

Shortly before the start of the race it started drizzling which continued for half-an-hour.

The last event was also run on the rain drenched track and long shot Triple M found the going to his liking to win by a head from favourite Beena Roy Baby in a dramatic finish.

Owned by Mian Mahir Ahmad the bay colt was ably steered by M. Zeeshan. The most interesting aspect of the race was that trainer Raja Tehmasab Khan had tried four of his horses in this race. They finished second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.

The Landi Kotal Plate, a class I, II and III combined handicap race run over 1200 metres was won by the bay gelding Flight Alert. Taking a flying start Flight Alert led all the way home to defeat even-money favourite Millennium Count by a distance. As Flight Alert strode past the finishing line he broke one of his front-leg and was given an injection to relieve him of all pains.

Blu’s Wendy and Perfect Timing completed the frame among ten runners left in after the last-minute withdrawal of The Champion.
