More rangers to be deployed

ISLAMABAD, Feb 23: Deployment of rangers will be increased in Karachi following the killing of nine people outside an Imambargah in Rafa-i-Aam Society on Saturday, the interior ministry’s spokesman, Iftikhar Ahmed, has said.

Talking to Dawn, the spokesman termed the incident “a brutal act of sectarianism.”

Replying to a question, the official said there was no need for troops’ deployment as the paramilitary forces were enough to tackle the situation.

“It is an isolated incident but such incidents should not take place during Muharram,” he said.

He said the law enforcement agencies had so far failed to find any clue to the killers.

He said the government had directed the provinces to take measures to avoid such incidents during Muharram.
