Civil judge digs out fraud

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, Feb 22: A civil judge claimed on Saturday to have dug out fraud with courts by a group of former lawyers and other court officials, who he said produced fake property documents in courts to seek bails.

Information gleaned by this correspondent revealed that some local civil and sessions judges received complaints against a group of retired officials, which allegedly produced fake property documents in various courts for getting bail orders of some accused.

The complainants also included some of the district court’s touts in the fraud, saying the suspects presented fake registry documents of lands in the civil and sessions courts after receiving huge amounts from the victims’ relatives.

Conducting an inquiry, Civil Judge Asmatullah Khan Niazi found an accused, Irshad Ahmad of Rasoolpura, who was detained by the Kotwali police for fraud, illegally set free by the gang after providing fake registry documents of land. The group claimed that the land was owned by a man named Babar Husain, son of Sabir Husain, of Hafizabad.

The relevant patwari confirmed that the documents were prepared by the outlaws on their own. Tehsildar (Saddar), in his report, also testified the patwari’s claim and recommended the authorities concerned to take action against the accused.

The judge ordered registration of a case against accused Babar Husain, who presented fake documents in the court, and co-accused Irshad.

The Kotwali police booked the accused under section 420, 467, 468, 471, 109 PPC. However, they have yet to arrest the suspects.

Sources at the district courts claimed that some of the retired lawyers and clerks were patronizing the impersonators’ gang. About 50 per cent of the registry documents and bail applications being presented in courts were fake, they added.
