MANSEHRA, Feb 20: The local government commission has sought more powers regarding the inspection of accounts of districts and other local institutions working at local level in the entire province.

Sources said that the commission had demanded of the provincial government to empower it to settle down disputes arising from time to time between the district and government departments, besides allocation of Rs12.98 million for salaries, travelling and daily allowances, and other facilities to the officials of the commission.

They said that the MMA government after receiving reports of irregularities and misuse of development funds by the Nazimeen had ordered special audit of all the district governments’ accounts through the director of the local fund audit, NWFP.

In the first round, audit in seven districts, including Tank, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Batgram and Haripur had been completed, the sources said, adding that the reports were discussed in a recent meeting of the local government commission and a summary was sent to the chief minister.
