Record of officials’ assets planned

ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: The government will prepare a comprehensive record of assets of its employees by January 2004 to check illegal means of money making by the unscrupulous government servants, an official of the NAB told Dawn on Wednesday.

The official said the National Anti-Corruption Strategy’s Implementation Committee (NACSIC) had suggested to build a database of assets declarations of government servants with the assistance of Central Broad of Revenue.

He said the meeting of the committee which was presided over by the NAB’s chief Lt Gen Munir Hafiez at the NAB’s headquarter on Wednesday decided that the CBR will provide expertise and coordination support in building a database of assets declarations of government servants.

In this connection, a standardized pro forma for federal and provincial governments employees will shortly be designed.

The committee, he said, had agreed that a single date for filing in income tax returns and assets declarations be fixed.

He said all government organizations would devise avigilance mechanism as per need and requirement and details of proposed mechanism will be provided to the NACSIC within one month.
