KARACHI: Man shot dead

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Feb 20: A journalist was shot dead in Korangi on Thursday afternoon.

The police said that Saghir Husain Kazmi, aged 35, was shot dead by three men in Korangi’s sector 35-C.

Mr Saghir came to see his friend Khursheed. He knocked at his door and sat under a tree a few yards from Khursheed’s house. As he was waiting for Khursheed, three unidentified men, riding a motorcycle, came there, pumped three bullets into Saghir’s body and sped off on the motorcycle.

Saghir was hit by three bullets and one of them pierced through his head which proved fatal. Two of the bullets struck him in a leg. He died on the spot. He lived in Korangi 3 1/2 and leaves behind two children besides others.

The body was sent to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for post- mortem.

The Town Police Officer of Korangi, Javed Baloch, told Dawn that it was a target killing, but hastened to add that it would be premature to describe it as a sectarian killing.

Quoting the victim’s father, Kabir Husain Kazmi, the TPO said that Saghir was not active in any sectarian organization nor had he any personal enmity.

Saghir worked as a sub editor in a local Urdu daily, the police said quoting the family sources.

The victim’s father lodged an FIR at Korangi police station.

“Saghir’s brother is an army captain, and at present he is posted in Attock, the NWFP,” family sources said.

FALLS TO DEATH: A labourer died when he fell from an under- construction building near Airport on Thursday.

ARRESTED: The police claimed to have arrested an activist of the Lashkar-i-Jhangvi in Jamshed Town on Thursday.

The police said that a police mobile of the Anti-car Lifting Cell of Jamshed Town arrested Abdul Wahab while riding a motorcycle near Nishtar Park and recovered two Kalashnikovs and 120 rounds from his possession.
