GUJRANWALA, Feb 19: Seventeen revenue officers were given the powers of magistrate first class by the Punjab government.
It is learnt here on Wednesday that district officer Najam Shah will be the magistrate in-charge who will supervise their working.
DDO Muhammad Akram Chaudhry was posted magistrate at Satellite Town, ADO Muhammad Iqbal Warriach at Sabzi Mandi, Baghbanpura and Model Town, ADO Muhammad Najib Aslam at Civil Lines, Dhulley, railway police post, ADO Shamshad Mahmood at Kotwali, Garjakh and People’s Colony, DDO Syed Sibt-i-Hasan at Gujranwala Sadar, ADO Rao Riaz Ijaz at Aroop, Eminabad, Ferozewala and Cantonment, ADO Chaudhry Ahmad Saeed at Ladhewala Warriach and Qila Dedar Singh, DDO Ms Aneela Suleman at Kamoki city and Wahando, DDO Syed Amjad Husain Bukhari at Naushera Virkan, ADO Ali Arhsad at Tetley and Kot Ladha.
Meanwhile, DO (coordination) Rana Abdul Majid Khan, RTA Secretary Mahmoodul Hasan Zia and administrative officer (conduct) Aitzazur Rashid were also made magistrate.
DEATH SENTENCE: An anti-terrorism court on Wednesday sentenced to death eight people who murdered six people in Narowal.
The convicts are; Ghulam Nabi, Akbar Ali, Shaukat Ali, Nasir Mahmood, Asghar Ali, Ilyas, Khalid and Iqbal.
According to prosecution, convicts wanted to kill their rival, a proclaimed offender Javed. On receiving information that he took refuge in the house of one Allah Ditta in Aliabad village, Narowal, they stormed the house at midnight on April 15, 2002. They killed Abbas Ali and Arif while Javed managed to escape from there.
Later, they entered the house of Munawwar Ali and opened indiscriminate fire on his family, killing Munawwar, his wife Amina, son Tasawar Ali and cousin Raza Abbas and injuring Munawwar’s daughter Batool.
GRID STATIONS: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) would establish new 132KV grid stations in Cantonment, Daulat Nager, Hafizabad and Sheranwala Bagh and install heavy transformers in the region for better supply of power to its consumers.
GEPCO chief executive Brig Saif Ullah Khalid made this statement while briefing members of the national and provincial assemblies of the region and district Nazimeen here on Wednesday.
Director (Human Resources) Col Ghazanfar Ali Khan, Chief Engineer Nazir Ali Khan and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
