Pakistan to host tournament

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Feb 17: International Badminton Federation (IBF) has allocated an international circuit tournament to Pakistan which will be staged in Islamabad from Oct 13 to 18.

Pakistan Badminton Federation vice-president, Naqi Mohsin while addressing a press conference said on Monday that 15 Asian countries would be invited for this tournament.

Elaborating on the future plans of the federation, Naqi said that eight men and women players along with three officials were going to Malaysia for a ten-day training tour starting from March 3

He pointed out that the tour was arranged to prepare a strong team for the next SAF Games.

Naqi claimed that as the Indians were not participating in the SAF Games, therefore, Pakistan had great chances of winning a gold medal.

He said that trials to select men and women team for Malaysia and SAF Games will be held at Rodham Hall Islamabad from Feb 22 to 24.

Under-19 team would participate in Yonex tournament to be held in Singapore in September this year, he added

Pakistan will also participate in JVC Asian Badminton Championship to be staged in Indonesia in August 2003.
