Aussies offered shortest odds


LONDON, Feb 17: Defending champions Australia have been backed at 2,000/1 ON, the shortest odds ever offered for a sporting contest, to beat Holland in the World Cup Group ‘A’ match at Potchefstroom on Thursday.

British bookmakers William Hill have also offered the following odds on teams to win the 2003 cricket World Cup:

Australia 8-11

New Zealand 15-2

South Africa 8-1

India 10-1

Sri Lanka 10-1

West Indies 11-1

Pakistan 12-1

England 20-1
