KARACHI: Authorities told to curb car thefts

KARACHI, Feb 16: Sindh Chief Secretary K.B. Rind has directed, through IG Sindh Syed Kamal Shah, the DIG traffic and the DIG operations to ensure effective and viable measures to curb the rising incidence of vehicle-stealing/ snatching and stealing of tape recorders and other items from standing vehicles.

Talking to a group of newsmen in his office here the other day he told them that the government had taken serious notice of stealing of parts of vehicles from parking areas. The chief secretary said that some complainants had also hinted at the possibility of involvement of beggars and police personnel in the crime, and in that regard a committee has been set up which would soon forward its findings to him.

“However, special instructions have also been issued to the DIG traffic and the DIG operations to evolve an effective strategy with the help of the city government for complete elimination of the crime, while public safety commission are being set up in all the districts of the province for accomplishment of this desired objective,” he added.—PPI
