Embezzlement: inquiry against UC Nazim ordered

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Feb 15: The district coordination officer ordered an inquiry against a Nazim of union council No 82/46 on the charge of embezzlement in uplift projects and inducted a local government assistant director as inquiry officer on Saturday.

Around a dozen councillors, including four lady councillors, sent a memorandum to DCO Iftikhar Ahmad that UC Nazim Riaz Ahmad embezzled Rs74,000 in the purchase of streetlight equipment. They alleged that the Nazim spent the amount without getting any approval from the house.

The Nazim, they further alleged, was drawing Rs4,500 per month the rent for his office from the treasury with the connivance of union council secretary as against the officially fixed rent of Rs2,000.

Those who sent memorandum to DCO are: Muhammad Sadiq, Tariq Mahmood, Muhammad Akram, Abdul Hamid, Malik Fiaz, Mian Hafizur Rehman, Amanullah Butt, Muhammad Ilyas Mughal, Safia Begum, Sardaran Begum, Qayyum Akhtar Bibi and Rahila Kauser.

When contacted, UC Nazim Riaz Ahmad said the charges levelled against him by councillors were baseless and that he was ready to face any inquiry.
