Pakistan, US discuss security situation

WASHINGTON, Feb 14: The United States and Pakistan discussed nonproliferation and security related issues here this week, the Pakistan embassy said on Friday.

Assistant Secretary of State for Nonproliferation John S. Wolf led the US team while Ambassador Ashraf Jehangir Qazi led the Pakistani delegation.

Interagency delegations from both sides, including officials form Islamabad, participated in talks.

The two delegations welcomed the opportunity to exchange views on a variety of areas, including global proliferation threats, as well as peace and security issues in the South Asia region.

Both delegations exchanged many ideas for increased cooperation.

They reaffirmed that continuing close collaboration on global, regional and bilateral issues was of great importance for promotion of peace and security.

They welcomed expert level export control discussions on Feb 24-27.
