GUJRANWALA, Feb 14: The district police claimed on Friday to have arrested two dozen proclaimed offenders and busted two robbers’ gangs in various raids.

District Police Officer Saud Aziz told newsmen that Sabzi Mandi police, on a tip-off, raided the Khila graveyard and arrested the proclaimed offenders after a brief encounter.

He said the Model Town police arrested about a dozen robbers and retrieved arms and looted goods from their possession. The weapons included two kalashnikoves and as many hand grenades and rifles, four pistols and five revolvers, he said, adding the police also retrieved vehicles.

The DPO said Ghakhar police rounded up at least nine dacoits and retrieved nine stolen motorcycles from them. He added the suspects were wanted by police in many cases.

SUICIDE: Two youths committed suicide over not getting new clothes and shoes on Eidul Azha.

Reports said Kashif, 22, and Zaheer, 28, had been hunting for jobs for quite some time. Dejected over not buying new clothes and shoes, they took poison.

They died at a hospital. Their bodies were handed over to their families.
