Research fund established

ISLAMABAD, Feb 14: The Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) has decided to establish an Agriculture Research Endowment Fund (Aref) to manage all proceeds raised from the sale of US wheat.

The income generated through Aref would be used for PARC activities and projects in line with long-term research and development goals.

Parc is acting as the focal point of the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) in Pakistan, coordinating research activities at national and international levels for development of agriculture sector with a focus on food security and poverty alleviation.

According to official sources, Parc has launched 70 research-oriented projects of which 66 are under progress all over the country while the remaining four projects would be implemented shortly.

The approval for these projects has been given by a board of directors at its third meeting held recently.—APP
