HYDERABAD, Feb 14: The Higher Education Commission has approved a project for computerization and network enhancement of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro.

According to the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof Jan Mohammad Memon, the LUHMS would also help develop e-medicine and replace manual internal communication system among its departments.

He said that a portal would be developed under the project to facilitate faculty, students and health professionals.

He said that database of several disease patterns would be developed for promotion of indigenous research.

The portal would contain a separate website for each department and also information like examination schedules, results, library and health information, research documents, job opportunity announcements and advertisements.

CRACKDOWN: In a pre-Eid crackdown against undesirable elements, the Hyderabad region police arrested two harbourers of criminals, 10 criminals and 31 absconders and recovered nine pistols, 19 cartridges and 13 bullets from their possession.

According to the break-up, the Hyderabad police arrested four criminals and recovered four pistols and 12 cartridges from their possession.

The Dadu police arrested one criminal and 12 absconders and recovered one pistol and six bullets from their possession.

The Thatta police arrested a harbourer of criminals and one criminal.

The Badin police arrested two criminals and recovered two pistols and seven cartridges.

The Mirpurkhas police arrested five absconders.

The Sanghar police arrested a harbourer of criminals, two criminals and 14 absconders and recovered two pistols and seven bullets from their possession.
