KARACHI, Feb 14: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association has hailed the decision of the education minister to declare IT as an optional subject at intermediate level.
In a statement, SPLA president Syed Riaz Ahsan and other office-bearers said such a move had saved the academic career of a large number of students.
The SPLA chief said most of the colleges in the province do not have computers and that there was also a shortage of trained faculty members to teach this subject.
The SPLA office-bearers were of the view that the IT syllabus introduced in the province was “sub-standard”.
They called upon the Sindh chief minister to issue a notification for remission of IT fees.
They also urged that a new syllabus for IT be introduced after necessary approval from the education ministry.
The SPLA office-bearers called upon the education minister to conduct an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the purchase of computers and initiate an action against those found guilty.
They also stressed that the money utilized from students and college funds be returned.—APP
