KARACHI: Cash reward for railwaymen


KARACHI, Feb 14: The Chairman Railways, Lt-Gen (retired) Saeeduz Zafar, has announced a cash reward of Rs1.5 million for supervisors and other workers of the Karachi diesel shed/shop for their outstanding performance.

Gen Zafar visited the unit to review its performance and praised the working and announced a cash reward of Rs2,000 for each supervisor and Rs1,000 for each work-men, which was distributed among all the staff before Eidul Azha.

The shed has been looking after the maintenance of some 110 Karachi -based locomotives.

Meanwhile, plans are afoot to separate the shed from the shop to facilitate its expansion to overcome congestion of the machines and to make room for new Chinese locomotives, besides improving the maintenance work.

The Pakistan Railways is procuring about 69 locomotives from China and shipment is to start shortly.

The Karachi railway division is constructing another platform in front of Cantt Station to accommodate more trains. The platform will be connected with the existing station, which is being remodelled for the purpose.

Work on extension of washing lines at the Cantt Station is also being started to make room for additional trains.

A new computerized reservation office is also being constructed at the Cantt Station to facilitate the growing number of passengers.

The new reservation office will have 22 counters. At present, the Karachi division has its main reservation office at the City Station.

Work on beautification of Cantt Station has also been taken in hand.—APP
