Maula Bakhsh puts Sherwood into final

LAHORE, Feb 10: Six goals by Maula Bakhsh steered Sherwood into the final  of the Brig R G Hyder memorial Cup polo tournament when they beat Travel Quest 8-7 on Monday.

Maula Bakhsh scored both goals in the first chukker which ended with Sherwood leading 2-0.

The losers took the lead 3-2 in the second chukker scoring three goals in a row. Talha scored two goals and Irfan chipped in a goal.

Sherwood equalised in a thrilling third chukker in which five goals were scored. Shahzad Aziz made it 3-3 for the winners.

Quest regained the lead 4-3 through Irfan’s second goal.

Maula Bakhsh’s third goal for Sherwood made it 4-4. Irfan also struck his third to steer Quest ahead 5-4 .

 Ahmad Zubair struck just before the end of the chukker, to restore the parity 5-5.

In the fourth chukker, Maula Bakhsh banged home his fourth goal cashing in on a 30 yard penalty hit to gain 6-5 lead for Sherwood. Talha slammed in a goal to  level the  score  6-6.

Maula Bakhsh, struck back to back goals within a minute of each other not only completing his tally of six  goals but  also widened Sherwood’s lead to 8-6.

Ahshan Javed Sher, struck for Quest striking the their seventh goal but in vain.

With a 1 1/2 goal handicap, ably supported by three  goals by Ahmad Ali Tiwana XXX beat PAF 6 1/2-5. to come in third.

PAF got off to a flying start scoring three goals in  the first  two chukkers one each through Usman Hai, Salman  Noon  and Zain  Khakwani to gain 3- 1 1/2 lead.

XXX retaliated  and  scored two goals in the second chukker to get 3 1/2-3 lead. Ahmad scored his first while Ehsan Elahi slammed in a goal.

In the third chukker PAF scored a goal to again  establish the lead 4-3 1/2 through Capt Shaukat Malik, who scored two goals in  the  match.

But XXX responded strongly and  scored  two  more goals to finish the chukker with 5 1/2-4 lead. Ahmad struck  his second goal and Feroze Gulzar the remaining one. Ahmad scored his last  goal in the fourth chukker while Shaukat struck his  second for the losers to make the tally.
