ISLAMABAD, Feb 9: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has been asked to demolish three kutcha abadis in the federal capital within 15 days.

Sources in the district administration told this reporter that the CDA chairman, Mir Mohammad Laiq Shah, in a letter to the deputy commissioner, had pointed out that the three slums located near the foreign missions were a security threat.

The three kutcha abadis, situated at Bari Imam, Malpur and Saidpur, were established in violation of the CDA by-laws, the sources said.

It is worth mentioning here that the dwellers of these slums took possession of the CDA land in 1960, on the condition that they would vacate the area when asked by the authority. More than 14,000 mud-houses built in the three settlements in the early years, have now been turned into permanent houses.

The sources said the inhabitants of these slums were allotted plots in different sectors, but they refused to leave the places.

It was also learnt that the government was planning to establish National Park at Malpur, while green belts would be made at Saidpur and Bari Imam to avert any untoward incident.

The sources said the CDA had planned to shift five kutcha abadis in the capital to the newly-developed urban model village, Alipur Farash, within two years.

A comprehensive mechanism will be devised to upgrade five more kutcha abadis in G-7/1,2,3, F-7/4 and F-6/2.

So far, about 599 residential plots on 65 acres have been allotted to the Muslim Colony (Bari Imam) residents for resettlement through three draws, the sources said.

BUS TERMINAL: The government has decided to construct a modern bus terminal at Sector I-11 to facilitate people in getting smooth transport facilities, sources said.

They said Rs600 million had been approved for the project.
