RAWALPINDI, Feb 8: Union leaders have asked for the repeal of Industrial Relations Ordnance (IRO) terming it anti-labourers legislation.

President of the Pakistan Workers Confederation (PWC) Gul Rehman, in a statement, said the IRO was repugnant to the convention of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

As the government has ratified the ILO conventions, it is incumbent on it to repeal the Industrial Relations Ordinance and also bring other outdated laws in conformity with the international labour legislation, he said.

The PWC leader demanded the implementation of the workers’ welfare laws in letter and spirit. The labour department should be decentralized and put under the provincial governments.
