Drug-trafficker awarded over two years RI

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Feb 7: Additional District and Sessions Judge Sayyed Pervez Ali Shah on Friday awarded two-and-a-half-year rigorous imprisonment to a drug-trafficker.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict, Ikhtyar Ali. In case of default, the convict would have to serve additional two months in jail.

According to the prosecution, the convict had been booked by Rawat police after recovering two kilogramme charas from his possession.

Meanwhile, the same court awarded one-and-a-half-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) to another drug-trafficker, Aqeel Ahmad, who had been booked by New Town police for peddling half kilogramme charas. The court also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict. In case of default, he would have to undergo additional one month in jail.

As the convict confessed to his crime in the court, the judge awarded him the benefit of 382-B, according to which the jail- term, which the convict had spent during the trial of the case, would be included in the imprisonment period.

Similarly, Additional District and Sessions Judge Sanaullah Malik awarded 100-day rigorous imprisonment (RI) to a drug- paddler. The court also imposed a fine of Rs5,000 on the convict, Muhammad Navid. In case of default, he would have to undergo another 15-day RI. The Kahuta police had booked the convict for possessing and selling 125 gram charas, the prosecution contended in the court.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Abdul Qayyum rejected the bail application of five persons, who had allegedly abducted a new-born baby from Holly Family Hospital on Nov 2.

The prosecution contended that the accused, Shehzada, Zolistan, Shamim, Maula Dad and Abida had committed one of the heinous crimes by abducting a baby girl, Aneesa Rubab, from the Holy Family Hospital.

The prosecution further contended that the accused Maula Dad introduced himself as grandfather of the baby to the hospital staff, while the accused Abida termed herself the mother of the baby. The prosecution maintained that ironically the accused Abida was pregnant when she introduced herself as mother while the baby was in her hands, but the hospital staff did not use common sense.

The prosecution pleaded that awarding bail to the accused would be equal to encouraging the gang of the kidnappers, who always remained busy in their activities in the city.

The judge of family court, Shabana Risalat Abbasi, issued the warrant of arrest of a person, Khalid Pervez Abbasi, who was not paying the decreed amount of Rs2.5 million to his son, Suhail Khalid.
