KARACHI, Feb 6: A superb century by Yasir Hameed laid the foundation of a formidable total by PIA on the first day against Rawalpindi in the second semifinal of Quaid-i-Azam National Cricket Championship at UBL Sports Complex on Thursday.
Yasir scored 108, the right-hander’s maiden three-figure innings for the national carrier, as PIA amassed 336 for five at stumps after skipper Moin Khan elected to bat first at the toss.
Moin himself was in sparkling touch. The former Pakistan captain was batting with 63 — laced with 10 fours — in the unfinished sixth-wicket partnership of 121 with Bazid Khan (56, six fours).
PIA recovered from the early loss of experienced opener Ghulam Ali without a run on the board. Yasir, who reached his hundred with his 16th four, led the way and put on 115 with Faisal Iqbal for the fourth-wicket.
Faisal was run out after making 48 when he tried to retreat into his crease but failed to beat Pervez Aziz’s direct throw from mid-off.
Pindi pacer Junaid Zia was spoken to by Test umpire Shakeel Khan over the legitimacy of his bowling action, which was reported on several occasions in the past by international umpires — notably in the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
