Favourite My Home Land hacks field
LAHORE, Feb 5: Five-year-old roan, My Home Land, outclassed his ten rivals to win the Kashmir Day Cup run over 1200m during the Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The 60 to 100 favourite, My Home Land, ran second behind the front-running Triple M in the early part of the race. He burst into the lead entering into the straight after collaring Triple M to finally defeat late-rushing Fair Boy by three lengths.
Triple M fell back to third place another half-a-length back with Thank You Boss fourth, another distance away.
Jockey, Aamer Parvez, rode the winner, jockey Khurrum Sheikh the second and jockey Shahid Rehman the third. The winner clocked one minute 18 3/5 seconds over the distance.
The winning owner Arif Mahmood Butt received the Kashmir Day Cup from Lahore Race Club (LRC) steward, Malik Hamid Ali Noon immediately after the race.
Incidentally, My Home Land, was the only firm favourite to oblige the punters in a small card of six events. The remaining four events were bagged by long shots.
Five-year-old grey , Al Jarrar partnered by jockey Javed Iqbal caused the major upset of the day in the second race.
Trained by Razzak Al Jarrar set his own pace and went on to win leading all the way home. Sun Of Gold, who chased the winner all along 1200m finished second, three lengths behind while Rambo Princess and Waseem Love completed the frame among 16 runners.
Except for the cup event, the day’s card turned out a tricky one with about six or more runners backed in each race and favourites finishing off the board.
