LAHORE, Feb 5: MQM’s better working relations with the Sindh PML-Q is stated to be atop the agenda of Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad who arrived here on a two-day visit on Wednesday.

Official sources said during his first official visit to Punjab, Dr Ibad would discuss with Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi issues like distribution of water and resources among the provinces.

They said that like the Punjab, Sindh too had reservations about the district government system. Dr Ibad would also discuss with the chief minister measures to adopt a joint policy regarding improvement in the system.

Sources said since Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi held an important position in the PML-Q, Dr Ibad would discuss with him how to evolve a better relationship between his MQM and the Sindh chapter of the Muslim League.

They would also evolve a strategy to improve working relations between the two provinces, sources said.

Dr Ibad was received by Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and some cabinet ministers at the airport.

During a brief talk with Dr Ibad, Governor Khalid Maqbool reportedly said that Sindh and Punjab did have good working relations but held certain reservations on some issues. Discussion should be held for further improving the relations.

Later, Dr Ibad attended a dinner-reception at the Governor’s House. The reception was attended by a select gathering of senior civil and military officers, notables and industrialists.

On Thursday, Dr Ibad will attend a lunch by the chief minister and a civic reception by the Lahore district government at the Bagh-i-Jinnah. He is scheduled to return to Karachi on Thursday evening.
