KARACHI: Water shortage in several city areas

KARACHI, Feb 4: Several city areas have been experiencing water shortage for the last five days.

The worst affected localities include different sectors of Orangi, North Karachi, Surjani Town, parts of Shershah, SITE industrial area and Saudia Colony, Malir.

Nazimeen and councillors of different union councils of Orangi said although the residents of a number of UCs had been experiencing water shortage for the last two months, the concerned officials of the city government’s water and sanitation department have failed to ensure that their schedule of supply, which comes after every 72 hours, is implemented in letter and in spirit.

Listing the localities where water shortage has become a matter of routine, they said the hard-hit localities of the township include Urdu Chowk, Benazir Colony, Baloch Colony, Makhdoom Shah Colony, Bismillah Colony, Bijli Nagar, Bewa Quarters, Madina Colony, Block L, Millat Colony, Aziz Nagar, Warsia Colony, Ghausia Baloch Colony, etc.

Complaints have also been received from other parts of the city where the W&S department had been applying one-day closure in a week since October last.

Water supply to Clifton, Gizri, Dehli Colony, Punjab Colony, Shirin Jinnah Colony, Jinnah Hospital, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Naval Officers Residents Estate-I, Bhutta Village and Navy Dockyard, also remained suspended on Tuesday.

CLOSURE: The localities which would go dry on Wednesday include Garden East, Garden West, Soldier Bazaar, Shikarpur Colony, Saddar, Old City Area, Cosmopolitan Society.
