Triumph for Chandna
KARACHI, Feb. 3: Chandna with 84 Victory Points (VP) clinched the Swiss Movement, week-end Bridge competition held at Aslam Bridge Hall
Chandna comprising Shakeel Chandna, Navaid Anjum, Jamal Nizami, Zahoor Kazmi first edged out Strikers 21-19.
In their second attempt the defeated Jamal 23-07, then Mehmood fell victim to their form, losing 15-4. In the last match Attackers extended them fully and were able to draw the match, sharing 30 points equal.Chandna scored 84 out of possible 100 VP.
Lipton, having the same set-up of last weeks winning team, Mohsin, and adding Ghufran Ashraf scored 76 VP to finish second. They also won all the four matches of the afternoon, first against four Bidders 21-09, then defeated Maqbool 19-11, Raees 17-13 and finally Candyland 19-11.
Four Bidders with Iqbal Abidi, Jawad Abedi, Afzal Shaikh and Syed Ameer Hasan in their fold scored 75 VP, winning three matches.
Thirty-six pairs contested pairs event earlier. In the seniors section, it was again Shaoib and Mazhar pair won easily. They scored 63 percent, Ghufran Ashraf and Khalid Mohiuddin scored 61 percent for the second place followed by Iqbal Haider and Noorie Pasha 60.45 percent.
In the other house, M.G. Siddiqui S.P. Jamal proved their superiority winning the event by 63 percent, Naseer Ahmed-Shahab finished second with 61 and Khoja-Hasnain finished third with the score of 59-70 percent.
In having the services of Mazhar Ali Khan, Shoaib Khan, Tariq Rasheed and Mohsin Chandna emerged on top of the ladder with an interrupted run.
In the meantime Pakistan Bridge Federation will hold Super Bowl XII- Pair contest on Tuesday, at Aslam Bridge Hall. The pair contest will commence at 6.00 p.m.
Karachi Bridge Association will also organize a Swiss Team event on Wednesday at the same venue. The event will start 3 p.m.—APP
