KARACHI: Police shoot suspect to death

KARACHI, Feb 3: An alleged bandit was shot dead in Malir late Sunday night, in what the police claimed an encounter.

The police said that two policemen while patrolling Shah Latif town in Malir signalled a suspicious-looking taxi (JL-1904) to stop.

Instead, the occupants of the taxi opened fire at policemen injuring Shafqat Ali.

The police returned the fire killing a suspect on the spot. His two accomplices escaped.

The police arrested the taxi driver, Javed, and impounded the taxi.

The police claimed to have recovered two pistols from the taxi.

The injured policeman has been admitted to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The body of the unknown suspect was also sent to the JPMC for post-mortem.

SHOOTOUT: The police arrested two suspects after a shootout with them on Aga Khan III Road in Saddar on Monday evening.

Two men were selling off a cellular phone in the electronics market. Another man, identified as Sajid Hasan, who had lost his motorcycle, cell phone and a helmet to motorcycle-lifters two days ago in Azizabad was also in the market to buy a new mobile phone. He spotted the two suspects and his helmet and informed a police mobile of Preedy police station.

Policemen of the mobile van rushed towards the two suspects. The latter opened fire at the police and tried to escape.

The police returned the fire. Both the suspects were injured and arrested.

The police recovered a stolen motorcycle (KAY-0472), a mobile phone set and a pistol with two bullets from the possession of the suspects.

The suspects were identified as Akram, aged 25, who received a bullet wound in the shoulder, and Falak Sher, aged 30, who suffered a bullet wound to his chest.

They were taken to Civil Hospital.

INJURED: A student of Government Monotechnical Institute, New Karachi, was seriously injured when occupants of a car opened fire at the institute on Monday.

The police said that unidentified persons opened fire at Government Monotechnical Institute in Sector 5-J in New Karachi. Two men, Mohammed Nadeem, aged 22, and Abdul Qadir, aged 23, were injured in the firing.

The unidentified assailants escaped.

The injured were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A spokesman for the Islami Jamiat Talaba said that their member Abdul Qadir suffered three bullets wounds. He had been admitted to Aga Khan Hospital.

No FIR was lodged at New Karachi police station till our going to press. A duty officer at the police station confirmed this.

ROBBERY: Armed men looted computers from a school in Mochko area late Sunday night.

The principal of Grammar School in Ittehad Town lodged an FIR at Mochko police station that two armed men entered the school and got away with three computers and other equipment in a van they had brought with them.
