KARACHI: City council told Faizan to be freed only after legal procedure

KARACHI, Feb 3: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan told the city council members on Monday that the UC Nazim, Mr Faizanullah, would be released only after legal procedures, and protest demonstrations were not a solution to the problem.

“We do not want to revive the tradition of releasing accused without legal procedures,” he said. He said he had not turned a blind eye towards the arrest of the UC Nazim.

“The reaction of city council members over the arrest of Faizanullah is natural and it is their right to raise voice in favour of their colleague. However, the Sindh government has taken up the matter and it was also being considered in Islamabad and we are hopeful of justice in the case”.

“Being the City Nazim, I will keep on representing the feelings of city council members at every forum”, Mr. Khan observed.

He appealed to the people to celebrate the Kashmir solidarity day on Feb. 5 with zeal and fervour and tell the world that Pakistanis would never withdraw their claim over Kashmir.

He also urged the elected representatives to play their due role in the anti-begging campaign being launched from Feb. 6.

Earlier, Naib Nazim Tariq Hassan presented a report regarding Faizanullah, prepared by a council committee. He said the committee had met the governor, the chief minister, the IG and the interior minister who have assured investigation of the case.—PPI
