PESHAWAR, Feb 2: The Iranian Cultural Centre has organised a week-long exhibition of Iranian paintings, calligraphic models of different scripts and work on glass and earthen pots here at the Peshawar Museum on Saturday.
The exhibition, inaugurated by the NWFP governor, to mark the 24th anniversary of the Islamic revolution of Iran, will remain open, except for the Kashmir Day on Thursday, for the art-lovers till Feb 8.
The organisers had put photographs of historic monuments, archeological sites, mausoleums of great poets on display inside the museum.
The calligraphic works of various masters, in different styles and scripts, and in old geometrical patterns, are the main section of the exhibition.
The calligraphic models include beautiful pieces of Quranic verses written and painted in Khat-i-Nastaleeq, Khat-i-Ghubar, Khat-i-Bahar and many other calligraphic genres.
Some pieces are based on the couplets from the classic poetry, which include Hafiz, Firdusi, Sa’adi, Jami, Nizami, Khyam, Rumi and others. Some of the paintings reflect ‘still’ aspects of life, including evening of Ashura, waiting, autumn, spring and depression. They depict various shades of temperaments and stages of life — prosperity, poverty, suffering and death.
The photographs, ranging from 33 bridges of Isfahan, Takht-i-Jamshid, Persipolis, Mazandran, Freedom Square, mausoleums of Imam Reza in Mashhad, Firdusi, Sadi, Khyam, Hafiz and others. The paintings and calligraphic works of women artists have become a source of interest for the art lovers.
