PESHAWAR, Feb 2: A Pakistan People’s Party-Sherpao MPA Alamzeb Omerzai survived a life attempt, but his driver was killed by some unidentified armed persons near Sheikao Nao in Charsadda on Sunday noon.

Police sources told Dawn that a vehicle of the MPA elected from Omerzai, Charsadda, was attacked at noon near Sheikhao Nao on Kuladand-Omerzai Road when he was returning from a marriage ceremony from Kuladand.

The MPA received four bullets in his body but his condition was out of danger, doctors in the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), where he was brought for medical treatment, told Dawn.

Driver Ayaz was killed on the spot and Mr Alamzeb Omerzai, MPA’s secretary Farman, official security guard constable Sajjad and a companion, Manan, received injuries in the attack, sources said.

Farman, constable Sajjad and Manan were rushed to the district headquarters hospital, Charsadda, from where they were discharged after medical treatment, sources said. But the police denied injuries to the three persons.

Mr Omerzai lodged an FIR against his political rivals — an Awami National Party leader and former provincial minister Bashir Khan Omerzai, his two sons Mansoor and Shakeel, Riaz Khan, Masood Khan and Nasir Khan.

Sources said a vehicle of the MPA was also attacked on Sept 4, 2002, in which one of his companion, Hameed, was killed. He had charged Bashir Omerzai in an FIR.

They said both the politicians had political-cum-family dispute since long and it was the third attempt on the life of Mr Alamzeb Omerzai.
