Student shot dead, millions looted

FAISALABAD, Feb 1: Outlaws shot dead a student and made off with hundreds of thousands of rupees in cash and valuables besides eight motorcycles in 12 separate incidents in and around the city during the last 24 hours, making a mockery of the local police efforts to control crime in the district.

According to police reports, armed robbers intercepted a BSc student, Mohammad Jamil, in Chak 448-GB and shot him dead on facing resistance.

Two masked highwaymen forcibly snatched a two-wheeler (FDS-4037) and thousands of rupees in cash from Dr Mohammad Tariq near Saleemi intersection on Faisalabad-Satiana Road.

Three bandits snatched a motorcycle (EDZ-1231) from a local trader, Mohammad Ibrahim, at gunpoint in Batala Colony.

Five highwaymen hijacked a car (LXZ-9961) at gunpoint and left its owner, Naveed Shahzad, stranded on Canal Road.

Unknown thieves took away the motorcycle of Shafique from D-Grounds of Peoples Colony, Mohammad Zulfiqar’s from Gatwala, Nasir Raza’s (FDX-95278) from Jhang Bazaar, Mohammad Tariq’s from Peoples Colony and Dost Mohammad’s (FDU-9878) from Kutchery Bazaar.

A weight-lifters’ club was burgled and valuables lost in Allama Iqbal Colony in the area of D-Type Colony police station.

A shop was burgled and cloth worth Rs100,000 lost at Bismillah intersection of Batala Colony.

Three robbers snatched thousands of rupees in cash and cloth from a vendor, Irshad Hussain, on Faisalabad-Satiana Road.

All the culprits were able to escape unidentified.

MOSQUE SEALED: The local police sealed the Bhaiwala mosque where two persons including a prayer leader were gunned down following a quarrel over possession of the mosque, and deputed armed commandos in the area.

Senior police officers visited the village in the company of city’s religious figures and asked the people to remain peaceful and not take law into their own hands over the issue.

The Nishatabad police have booked Ataur Rehman and Ibrahim, sons of the late founder of the mosque, under the Anti-Terrorist Act in this connection, and assured the locals that the culprits would be rounded up within the next 24 hours.

DIRECTIVE TO DCOs: The Punjab government has directed all the district coordination officers to complete the ongoing developmental schemes within the stipulated period and not to release additional funds until utilization of all the funds already provided for the purpose, according to a source in the DCO office.

DCOs throughout the province were also asked by the Punjab government to report on projects that had been put into cold storage during the last five years,

In the light of these instructions, DCO (Faisalabad) Tahir Hussain has issued orders for the release of Rs23.372 million for completion of 144 schemes for pavement of streets, carpeting of roads and renovation of public parks in the city.
