BAHAWALPUR, Feb 1: A tribal jirga of Loralai will settle the matter regarding the involvement of four of its residents in the bank dacoity of Rs2.2 million that was committed on Jan 17.
Dawn learnt that when a police party visited Loralai to arrest the alleged accused Nadir Khan, Amanullah Khan and their two accomplices, the tribal elders refused to hand them over to police.
Loralai Tehsil Nazim Saeed Ahmed on behalf of the accused assured the police for the settlement of the matter. He said the tribal jirga would meet soon to discuss the claim of police about the wanted men.
It is further learnt that a sum of Rs0.4 million more out of the looted Rs2.2 million from the ABL Musafirkhana branch has been recovered from the four absconding Loralai accused. Police sources, however, claimed that the amount was recovered from the already arrested four accused. They all have been sent to Central Jail after the expiry of their physical remand.
TAKEN AWAY: Three gunmen deprived an industrialist of his car here on Saturday.
Nasrullah Nasir said armed men intercepted him as he came out of his flour mills, took him to a deserted place, pushed him out of the car and sped with the vehicle.
Police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, three swindlers relieved a trader of Rs0.8 million in Hasilpur.
Khuda Baksh was on his way after drawing cash from the bank in a bag when the incident happened.
A case has been registered with no arrest.
FOUND DEAD: A shopkeeper was found dead on Saturday under mysterious circumstances in his house at Shahdara.
His employee told police that he found Sheikh Akram dead when he came to collect the keys of the shop. Police also found some wounds on his body. The deceased was living alone after divorcing his wife.
Police have registered a case against the unknown accused.
