By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Jan 31: A South African team will paricipate in the International Tent-Pegging and Equestrian Championship to be held at the Fortress Stadium from Wednesday.

Pakistan Tent-Pegging and Equestrian Association, chairman Major General Saeed-uz-Zaman Janjua, told journalists on Friday that England and Namibia had been invited, but as they did not have any sponsors they refused to come. However, South Africa had agreed to send a men and women’s tean of seven players each.

He explained that a 12-member team from Pakistan had been picked which was attending a training camp at the Atchison College.

He added that two teams from Afghanistan would also display its performance in “Buzkashi” a traditional game of that country.

Eight events in national tent-pegging competition will also be held in which around 200 horse-riders will take part.
