KARACHI: Winners of APNS awards announced

KARACHI, Jan 31: Names of the winners of the APNS Awards for Journalists and Advertising Agencies for 1999-2000 were declared on Friday by the secretary general of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society, Kazi Asad Abid.

The awards will be presented to the winners on Feb 19 during the 16th APNS awards ceremony to be held in Thatta. The event will be presided over by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali.

The following journalists were adjudged to be winners in various categories: Best Column (English), I.A. Rehman (Monthly Newsline); Best Column (Urdu), Tariq Mahmood Mian (Daily Nawa-i-Waqt); Best Column (Regional), Jami Chandio (Daily Ibrat); Best Feature (English): Zafar Abbas (Monthly Herald); Best Feature (Urdu), Ghulam Mohiuddin (Daily Jang); Best Feature (Regional), Saleh Billo (Daily Sindh); Best Photograph, Mubarak Almas (Daily Khabrain); Best Cartoon, Khaliq Khan Paki (Daily Qaumi Akhbar); Best Scoop, Rauf Klasra (Daily Dawn); Best Article, Syed M. Aslam (Pakistan & Gulf Economist); and, Best Investigative Report, Ms. Samina Ibrahim (Monthly Newsline).

The prime minister will also give away awards to the following advertising organizations.

BUSINESS PERFORMANCE AWARDS: Orient Advertising, first position; Interflow Communications, second position; Asiatic Advertising, third position.

Special Business Performance Award: Midas, Lahore Special Business Awards: Pak Suzuki Motors, first position, Central Board of Revenue, second position; Habib Bank, third position.

Product Launch of the Year 1999 and 2000: Habib Bank (Crore Pati), Interflow.

The panel of judges for the 16th APNS Awards for Agencies consisted of prominent experts of the industry. The panel selected the following awards: Best English Copy, Prestige Communications for Capri advertisement captioned “Always Close to Nature”; Best Urdu Copy: Prestige Communications for Tuc Lu advertisement captioned “Office Time”; Best Visual Colour: Energy Advertising for Mianz advertisement captioned “Wear your Mood”; Best Visual Black and White: Orient Advertising for Ministry of Population Welfare Advertisement captioned “Parcham Rahe Lehrata”; Public Service Campaign, Interflow Communications for its advertisement captioned “This is a Murder Weapon”.
