QUETTA, Jan 30: Wapda Hydro Electric Union staged a protest demonstration on Thursday against the privatization of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) and warned the government of launching a drive in this connection if the decision was not withdrawn.

Protesting union workers gathered before the Quetta Press Club carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands, and chanting anti-government slogans.

Later, union leaders including, Central Senior Vice-president Mohammed Ramzan Achakzai, Balochistan Chairman Syed Mohammed Lehri and other office-bearers spoke on the occasion in favour of their demands.

They described the privatization of Fesco harmful for the national economy, saying it would increase the electricity rates, which would affect agricultural, industrial and trade sectors of the country.

The leaders stressed on Wapda authorities to resolve union’s problems through negotiations with the quarters concerned.
