KARACHI, Jan 30: The Sindh Service Tribunal reinstated on Thursday an assistant sub-inspector of police who had been dismissed from service by a deputy inspector-general for registering a “false” FIR.
Arguing ASI Wajid Ali’s appeal before the tribunal, Advocate Muhammad Nawaz Shaikh submitted that the DIG had no power to pass the dismissal order as he was not the competent authority. Under the police efficiency and discipline rules, only police superintendents were empowered to sack ASIs. Besides, the procedure prescribed by the rules was not followed. A police official is bound to register an FIR under the criminal procedure code when a complaint is made to him, though it may be discharged after investigation.
Accepting the appeal, the tribunal, headed by Justice Abdul Ghani Shaikh set aside the dismissal order.
