NEW DELHI, Jan 28: Guards opened fire at a car after it breached security around Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s motorcade in New Delhi.
The national security guards opened fire at a Maruti Esteem car “as it intruded Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee’s motorcade heading for his residence from the Delhi airport” on Tuesday, police were quoted as saying.
One of the Maruti’s windshields was cracked but the car disappeared after the shooting.
Vajpayee, who was not hurt in the incident, had been returning to his official residence after engagements in Mumbai.
Police across the capital were alerted and a massive hunt launched to track down the errant car, police sources said.
