DOHA, Jan 28: Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali arrived in Qatar on Tuesday for a two-day visit for talks on the Iraq crisis, Afghanistan and the stalled Mideast peace process.

“I will have talks with Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on bilateral relations, the Iraqi issue, the ME and Afghanistan,” Jamali told journalists on arrival in Doha from Kuwait.

Jamali said after talks with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah: “On the question of Iraq, we agree that conflict should be averted in this region, as it may have devastating consequences for its countries and peoples.

“It is extremely important to maintain and preserve peace, stability and security, regionally and internationally.

“We hope that Iraq will unconditionally and fully comply with all UNSC resolutions,” the prime minister told a press conference.

“Pakistan supports the territorial integrity, stability and independence of all states in the region,” he added.

He also said the prospect of Pakistani troops becoming involved in a war with Iraq, if conflict broke out, amounted to “ifs and buts” and would be dealt with after further talks with other countries.

“And then we’ll form an opinion,” he said. “The policy will be what suits my country, number one. Secondly, we don’t want any problems for peace-loving nations and Kuwait is a peace-loving country.”—AFP
