LAHORE, Jan 28: Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi ordered on Tuesday necessary administrative changes in the provincial transport department so as to meet the current needs of the people.
He issued these directions while presiding over a meeting which was attended among others by Transport Minister Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan, Lahore Nazim Mian Amir Mahmood, Chief Secretary Hafeez Akhtar Randhawa and others.
The chief minister directed the administration to make the private transport companies fix a quota of buses for students while signing a franchize agreement with them.
He ordered standardization of traffic sign boards in the province. He said steps should also be taken for the elimination of bogus insurance companies operating under the pretext of compensating loss to life and property as a result of road accidents.
The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to make relevant law for increasing the amount of compensation to Rs100,000 to be paid to the heirs of a person to be killed in a road accident. The scheme of plying radio cabs in Lahore should also be immediately implemented.
