FAISALABAD, Jan 28: District police chief Zafar Abbas Lak claimed on Tuesday that a comprehensive plan has been chalked out to control crime in the district.
Speaking at a new conference here, he said the city had been divided into 16 sectors with equal number of police stations. Trained officials had been deputed at these centres for the investigation of all types of cases. A squad of 16 commandos with eight motorcycles had been deputed in each sector to patrol the area under their jurisdiction.
He expressed the hope that the step would help decline in the vehicle snatching incidents and highway robberies.
Mr Lak said SHOs had been directed to patrol their respective areas. Sub-divisional police officers and SPs would pay surprise visits to monitor patrol squads.
He warned the corrupt and lethargic police officials of strict action.
He said special teams had been formed to arrest proclaimed offenders and gangs of dacoits.
He claimed that over two dozen gangs of highway robbers and dacoits had been arrested in a special campaign. Stolen goods worth millions of rupees had been recovered from their possession.
He said Jaranwala police had recently arrested a 16-member gang.
ROBBERIES: Dacoits struck 11 times during the last 24 hours in the district and took away cash, gold, valuables and three motorcycles.
