PAF go down fighting

LAHORE, Jan 27: Sherwood defeated Pakistan Air Force (PAF) by a slim margin 6-5 1/2 in the Brig R.G Hyder Memorial Cup Polo on Monday.

Playing with a 2 1/2 goal handicap, PAF extended their lead when Tauheed struck in the first chukker. Maula Baksh also scored his first for Sherwood reducing the margin to 3 1/2-1.

In the second chukker, Shehzad Aziz, slammed in his first goal for the winners, but PAF struck back to back goals through Mohsin and Tauheed to surge ahead 5 1/2-2.

Shehzad and Bakhsh scored their second goals in the third chukker, while in the fourth, Mir Shoiab struck a field goal, and Baksh slammed his third goal to clinch victory for Sherwood.

In another match, three goals each by Abdul Rehman and Bakhtiar Pataudi and two by Imran Najeeb helped Tiger Stream crush XXX in an one-sided match 9-2 1/2. Mustafa Tiwana scored the other one.

The losers with 1/2 goal handicap, scored two goals through Tanvir Tariq and Ehsan Elahi.

In the Aibak Cup Polo which also started on Monday, Peshawar Garrison beat Remounts 6-5.

Two goals each by Ahmad Nawaz Tiwana and Arslan Najeeb supported by a 2-goal handicap, enabled Garrison to win.

Remounts made a flying start and had scored all five of their goals by the end of second chukker to gain 5-2.

Garrison got their act together, in the third chukker when Arslan scored twice while Ahmad slammed his first to make it 5-5.

In the fourth chukker, Ahmad scored the match-winner. For Remounts, Asif Zahoor struck two goals while Khurshid, Isfandyar Pataudi and Ahmad Khan scored a goal each.
