PAT stages demo

LAHORE, Jan 27: The Pakistan Awami Tehrik staged a demonstration on Monday to condemn the threat of war on Iraq.

The demonstration was organized in front of the Lahore Press Club. The demonstrators raised slogans against the US urging it not to impose a war on Iraq.

PAT chief organizer Dr Anwar Amin, Punjab president Daryab Yousaf Hashmi and others said attacking Iraq was like ridiculing the UNO and its Security Council. They said Pakistan could be the next target of the US if it failed to register its protest over the impeding war on Iraq.

They said the US administration was creating hatred among the Ummat especially Pakistanis due to their wrong policies. The disputes, if any, with Iraq should be resolved through talks, they said.

The demonstrators dispersed peacefully after listening to the speeches by their leaders.

Meanwhile, PAT chairman and MNA Dr Tahirul Qadri has, in a statement, said a slight mistake in the case of Iraq could endanger the world peace. The US-Iraq confrontation directly related to the world peace and should, therefore, be resolved through the UN instead of the use of power.

He also expressed concern over the blowing up of gas pipeline in Pakistan.
