Robbers strike at four places

RAWALPINDI, Jan 27: Three persons have snatched Rs0.5 million at gunpoint from the cashier of a soap factory located in I-9, the police said.

Noman Ijaz, the cashier, along with Mohammad Zahid was on way to bank when a Suzuki van, in which three persons were travelling, intercepted their car near Sui Gas Chowk.

The three persons, who were carrying pistols, forced the cashier to give them the cash bag. However, the culprits snatched the bag at gunpoint and escaped. The robbers later left their car at a deserted place, the police said.

Meanwhile, three Nigerian nationals ransacked the house of a Navel officer in G-11/3 and looted cash and jewellery at gunpoint late on Sunday night, the police said.

However, two of them were caught red-handed while fleeing and their third accomplice managed to escape, a police source said.

The arrested foreigners are Usman and Ali. They stormed the house of Lt Com Habibur Rehman in sector G-11/3 on Sunday night, held his family hostage at gunpoint and demanded cash and valuables.

The hue and cry of the robbery victims caught the attention of neighbours and passers-by, who later caught two persons while their third accomplice managed to escape with Rs10,000 and huge quantity of jewellery, the source said.

GUARD LOOTED: A postal security guard was robbed of by six persons, who held him hostage at gunpoint in G-8/4 on Monday night, the police said.

Mohammad Yosuf, a security guard deployed at General Post Office, was on his way to home after the duty when six persons intercepted him in the dark in G-8/4.

The culprits snatched Rs2,000 and a mobile telephone set from the guard and escaped, the police said.

TAXI SNATCHED: Two persons held a taxi driver, Tahir Naeem, hostage at gunpoint near Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and snatched his cab.
