JHANG, Jan 27: A man who filed a false complaint against a police inspector was sent to jail by a local civil judge on Monday.
Mumtaz Husain Naul, a resident of Chak Saidan Wala, had reportedly filed a petition with the Jhang SSP in 1998 against Assistant Sub-Inspector Faryad Ali for allegedly taking bribe from him in a case. The ASI was suspended from service and an inquiry started against him. The inquiry officer found him innocent.
The ASI filed a defamation suit seeking Rs25,000 in damages in the court of civil judge. The judge decreed the case in ASI’s favour and ordered police to arrest Mumtaz till he paid the damages.
ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: The health department has planned a special immunisation campaign against polio in the district from Jan 28 to 30 with the help of World Health Organization (WHO) and Unicef.
This was stated by the executive district officer (health) at a press conference in his office on Monday.
He said around 515,643 children below five years of age would be given polio vaccine. For the purpose the department had formed 1,279 mobile teams, which would be supervised by the district officer (health) assisted by DOs of Jhang, Chiniot and Shorkot, 20 zonal supervisors and 129 area in-charge.
WHO representative Dr Tariq Iqbal said on the occasion that in 1998 the number of polio-affected children was three million the world over which was reduced to 1,800 in 2002. He said there were only 10 countries in the world which were not polio-free and Pakistan was one of them. The other Asian countries were India and Afghanistan while the remaining seven countries were in the African continent.
He said in 2002, 96 polio cases were found in the country of which 15 were reported from Punjab.
