KARACHI: Work on road delayed

Published January 28, 2003

KARACHI, Jan 27: Despite the approval of the Nazim of the City Government, work on the construction of Manghopir Road has not started yet.

The Sindh Shehri Federation said the inordinate delay was causing concern among the people who have been demanding construction of the road for the past few years.

According to the Federation, the road has developed potholes at several places and it is risky for heavy vehicles and motorists to drive on this busy route.

Area people and representatives of NGOs have been demanding and lobbying for quite some time for the repair of the road. On Sept 22, 2001, the Provincial Ombudsman had ordered construction of the road.

The Federation claimed that the City Nazim had approved the project and the PC-1 and matters concerning tender had also been completed.
