Shujaat for one dish only at weddings

LAHORE, Jan 26: PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Husain has urged the Punjab cabinet to ban the service of food to marriage parties, allowing one-dish meal only at walima ceremonies.

In a letter to Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday, he said the recent cabinet decision on the subject should be reviewed in the light of his advice.

It has already been decided at the highest level that the party should run the government, not vice versa.

The letter said relatives of the bride should be under no obligation to serve food to marriage parties.

However, in case the marriage party comes from the same city, the host should be allowed to serve tea and confectionery in winter and drinks in summer. But in case the marriage party comes from some other city, service of one-dish meal should be permissible.

The PML-Q leader said the poor people had either to get loans or sell assets to serve food or arrange dowry. Their problems should be addressed by the government.

He said as head of the ruling party, it was his duty to examine the utility of the steps taken by the federal or provincial governments and then offer advice, where necessary.

Meanwhile, Chaudhry Shujaat left here for Germany on a 15-day private visit. Pervaiz Elahi saw him off at the airport.

LEAVES FOR GERMANY: PML-QA president Chaudhry Shujaat Husain left here on Saturday for Germany on a 15-day private tour.

According to a press release issued here on Sunday, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi saw him off at Lahore airport. During his visit, Chaudhry Shujaat will also go to England where after spending a few days he will return home.
