HYDERABAD, Jan 25: The All-Sindh Teachers’ Association has urged the Sindh minister for local bodies and Nazims of the local councils to order the removal of the garbage dumps, encroachments and cattle pens located near the educational institutions.
The appeal was made in a survey report, submitted to the authorities recently by the central secretary, information, ASTA, Kazi Aminuddin.
The province-wide teachers’ body also demanded of the Sindh minister for local bodies and the Nazims of the local bodies to maintain hygienic conditions near schools all over Sindh.
The report said that students were exposed to different diseases because of heaps of garbage lying outside schools.
It further said that encroachments around the schools and colleges and existence of cattle pens had also created health hazard for the students.
SPLA: The Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association, Hyderabad, has demanded the removal of the principal of the Government Science College, Sakrand, who, according to the association, had been working on contract for the past five years.
According to a facsimile statement, the demand was made at the general body meeting of the association of Nawabshah district, held in Sakrand on Friday.
The meeting was presided over by the regional president of the association, Prof Sher Khan Salero.
The meeting was also attended by other office-bearers of the association, including Prof Anwar Pathan, Prof Farooq Pathan, Tariq Qureshi and Mohammad Ali Shaikh.
The meeting threatened that teachers of Nawabshah and other districts would stage a sit-in on the Sakrand Highway on Feb 6 if the principal of the college was not removed immediately.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Salero demanded of the Sindh chief secretary and the provincial secretary of education to issue notification regarding promotions of college teachers from BPS-17 to BPS-18.
