KARACHI: Two men run over by bus

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 25: Two young men were run over by a bus on Hub River Road on Saturday.

The police said Rahim Bakhsh, aged 33, and Mohammed Ali, aged 32, were riding a motorcycle (SKG-0238) when they were knocked down by a speeding bus of route 51-A (BHL-3269). Both the young men died on the spot.

The bus driver escaped abandoning the bus. The police impounded the bus.

MURDER MYSTERY: The police claimed on Saturday to have solved the mystery surrounding the killing of a woman on Thursday.

The police arrested two teenagers for their alleged involvement in the killing of the woman.

28-year-old Saima was found murdered with her throat slit in her 12th floor apartment at Taj Complex on M. A. Jinnah Road. The police arrested Saima’s student, Qaiser, a student of class VII , and his friend Sufiyan, a student of class IX, for allegedly killing the schoolteacher. The woman gave tuition to small teachers.

The police questioned neighbours and other residents of the building and found a clue to the suspects, said DSP (Operation) Ferozabad Ali Raza.

A police party, led by SHO Brigade Wasif Qureshi, SI Saadat Ahmed Butt, and others, arrested Qaiser, aged 15, a resident of Zamzama, Defence Housing Authority, a student of class VII at the school where Saima worked as a teacher. Investigations revealed that Saima had called Qaiser’s father a day before she was killed and complained to him about his son’s insolence and bad behaviour with his school-mates and teachers.

DSP Ali Raza said Qaiser told the police that he felt insulted, so he decided to teach a lesson to his teacher. He, with his friend Sufiyan, aged 17, a student of class X in a private school and resident of Gizri, went to Saima’s apartment on Thursday and knocked at the door. Saima, who usually did not open the door for strangers, opened the door when she saw her student. She told Qaiser to come in. Then Qaiser told her that his father was also with him. She asked him to call his father in.

As Qaiser entered the apartment, Saima sensed danger and before she could raise alarm, Qaiser closed the door and Sufiyan beat her with kicks and blows. Saima, who was pregnant for two months, fell to the ground. Qaiser told the police that he grabbed her and sat on her body, while Sufiyan fetched a kitchen knife and they slit her throat.

The DSP took the suspects to the spot and re-enacted the crime scene. Sufiyan denied his involvement and said he was with his friend Shakeel and his family when Saima was killed. The police questioned Shakeel and his family who said they did not meet Sufiyan on Thursday. Later, Sufiyan also confessed to the crime.
